Bucharest
I felt a little uneasy throughout my whole time in the Romanian capital. Certainly my accommodation was pleasant enough and at no time was I actually mugged or robbed, but the visible indication of poverty and the shady looking groups loitering in dark corners made sure that I held my rucksack with a tight grasp. In places, Bucharest is a very picturesque city with long avenues, parks and squares which partly made up for the intimidating gypsy kids who patrolled narrow pathways. Overall this was one of the places on my trip that I felt less safe (whether or not this was justified) but thanks to some of its charms I enjoyed it nonetheless.
