Tallinn
The most immediately striking thing about Tallinn was the range of materials used in its construction. Pretty much the entire brochure of building materials was on display – from some of the smaller wooden houses, to large glass office blocks which separate the harbour from the Old Town which serves as the main tourist attraction. Tallinn unarguably has the most magical and well kept medieval Old Town of all capitals throughout Europe. For this very reason, every summer the main square fills with thousands of tourist on a crusade to get a glimpse of the past. Estonia is another ex-soviet country that has embraced westernism fully and is now reaping the benefits. Contrary to my underlying expectations, communications is a big thing in Tallinn as all the bars and parks provide free wireless internet.
